Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I choose College Insights over other college consultants?

We are a one-stop shop. Our unique background makes us qualified to do pretty much anything within the education realm—academic advising and intervention, career counseling, college admissions, essays, applications, ivy league admissions, baby ivy admissions, state and private school admission, boarding school admission, master’s programs, doctoral programs, law school admission, FAFSA and CSS Profile completion, financial aid review, and student loan help. We can even find free money for you!

When should I start working with a college consultant?

The sooner the better. We recommend students consult with us at the end of 8th or 9th grade. However, there are numerous ways we can help you even if you are already in your senior year. We work with each student individually, tailoring their plan to their situation, so no matter when you come to us, we will do the best we can to help.

What kind of students do you work with?

We work with students from all kinds of backgrounds. From high-achieving students, students with disabilities, minorities, non-traditional students, first generation students, students who are undecided, and those considering gap year opportunities, we are able to help every student regardless of their circumstances. We have helped thousands of students from all walks of life begin their college adventure. If you need assistance with college admissions, we can help!

Do you work with students that do not live in the greater Seattle area?

Absolutely! Our consultants travel extensively and have lived abroad, so we are used to working in different time zones and using technology to communicate. We are happy to work with students via applications such as Skype, FaceTime, and WhatsApp, or through text messages, phone calls, or email.

Do you help with financial aid applications, such as the FAFSA?

Yes. We can help with your FAFSA application, and the CSS Profile if needed. We can also help you understand your financial aid packages once you receive them. If you feel that financial aid is all you need help with, we offer a specialized Financial Aid Package service, separate from our college consulting services. Elisia is also a Certified Financial Aid Advisor and can answer any questions you have about the process.

Do you help with essays?

Of course! Essays are probably the most crucial part of the application process and can make or break a student’s acceptance into the college of their choice. We have extensive experience working with students on their essays and know what questions to ask to coach students through the process. Our students have written some pretty terrific essays which make them very competitive to the colleges they apply to.

Do you help with home-schooled students?

Yes, we have helped many home-schooled students. There are special circumstances for some home-schooled students, which usually requires specialized test planning and resume writing. Because of these special circumstances, the sooner we start working with home-schooled students the better.

Do you offer any courses?

Yes. Right now, we offer an Application Boot Camp and an SAT Boot Camp. These camps are offered in-person or online. For more information on camps, please contact us.
